In 1783 Benjamin Franklin, John Jay, and John Adams represented the colonies at the Treaty of Paris. The American representatives were supposed to consult their deals with the French but they didn't because the French were making secret deals with the British. The treaty recognized the American colonies as an independent nation, it also finalized the territory of the American colonies. The treaty also took the British land and gave it to the different countries involved in the war.
